My Career
What made you join Balfour Beatty? I was previously a student teacher in Maths and I have a Degree in Maths and Computing. I saw the job as a way of using the skills that I possess.
What does your current role involve? As a development engineer I develop products and ensure they work correctly and safely - I am currently working on points machine condition monitoring.
What job skills do you have to contribute to your work? Mainly technical skills applicable uniquely to the railway industry.
Best/worst parts of your job? Best - when you get something finished and it works well. Worst - when you are rushed and have too much to do.
Are you involved in any social activities through your work? We go out as a group from time to time, to the pub or bowling alley.
Best career advice you have been given? By my mother - remember that learning is a wonderful thing. It is important to keep challenging the brain.
What trait(s) do you admire in co-workers? Organisation and diligence.
What did you want to be when you were growing up? I will let you know when I have grown up.
What would you like to be doing in five years’ time? A slightly more managerial role, but in the same field.
Sum up your feelings to the company/ your role or career choice. Balfour Beatty is a good company to work for - they look after you. Of all the jobs I have had this is the best one in terms of Health and Safety. I am doing a challenging job, working with good people. |
