Hints and Tips
We receive hundreds of applications each year so it is important to make your application stand out and to provide us with all the information we ask for. Below are a few things you can do to ensure that this is the case. Remember, your application will be one of hundreds so how do you ensure yours makes it through to the next stage…
Completing the application form:
-
Answer all the questions – this sounds obvious but can easily be overlooked in a hurry.
-
Answer the question that is asked and not the question you wish had been asked!
-
Make sure your spelling and grammar are correct, as errors are very noticeable.
-
The questions we ask you about competencies are your opportunity to sell yourself so make the most of them
-
Use a variety of experiences from academic, sporting and other areas of your life to show how you have demonstrated these competencies.
If you’ve been invited to take part in an interview, here’s some advice you’ll find useful:
-
Be punctual and well presented – if for some reason you are going to be late contact the person interviewing you and let them know. If you are being telephone interviewed be available at the arranged time and ensure that you are somewhere comfortable where you can openly answer the questions without distractions.
-
Prepare – think about questions you want to ask us and think about the questions we might want to ask you
-
Research the company
-
Be aware of what you have put on your application as this will be referred to during the interview.
-
Smile, give a good strong handshake, don’t be nervous and make eye contact.
If you’ve been invited to an assessment centre, you’ll be pleased to know this is the final stage! Our assessment centres usually incorporate psychometric tests, an interview, group exercise and presentation. All these things will allow us to see if you demonstrate the competencies that we are looking for.
Improving your chances of success at an assessment centre are similar to that of improving them at an interview, so as well as doing the things mentioned above, you should also:
